Cy Young front-runner Tim Lincecum, Giants could be the difference-maker in NL West

Published by bayareastudcb88 at 12:56 pm under Bay Area Baseball Edit This

Tim Lincecum is 16-3 with a 2.54 E.R.A and has 225 strikeouts in 2008.

Tim Lincecum continued his case for Cy Young, by throwing a dominating gem against the struggling Diamondbacks on Monday Night in the Giants 6-2 win.  Lincecum went 8.1 IP and had 9 strikeouts and gave up only one earned run. Lincecum has accomplished a lot this year, but he still has a few more that he can achieve this year, such as getting 20 wins to go along with a Cy Young.  He has a chance to be the NL leader in strikeouts and earned run average.  Currently, he ranks 1st in strikeouts  in the Majors and in NL (225) and ranks 1st in NL in E.R.A. (2.54). His 16 wins for a lowly Giants team is also impressive.  However, Lincecum and the Giants could be the difference-makers in the NL West.  The Giants are coming off a sweep against the D-Backs to move them even further from the 1st place Dodgers. Coincedentally, the Giants have six games remaining with the Dodgers and a four-game series in Arizona against the D-Backs.  Giants are looking to win every single game against their division rivals and foes. Lincecum will have 3 more starts for sure left and may have a 4th start in the finale of the season against the Dodgers, which could be a big game for them.  However, Bochy would make the decision and see how Lincecum feels pitching on short rest.

Giants are on a 5 game winning streak and look to continue their streak against the last place San Diego Padres.  They look to Matt Cain to continue it for them.  On the offensive side, rookies Pablo Sandoval and Nate Schierholtz look to continue their hot hitting and build some momentum for next season.   As they look to be key pieces in their journey next season.  The sky is the limit for Tim Lincecum and the San Francisco Giants and they look to be the upsetters as this season comes to a close.
